
Associate of Applied Arts in Graphic Arts
OBJECTIVES:
This is an option offered in conjunction with the Central Maine Technical College (CMTC). After completing the first year of the art curriculum at UMA, the student takes a second year at CMTC in graphics technology. CMTC is in Auburn, 25 miles from Augusta.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- minimum English language competency permitting registration in ENG005 and REA008 or higher
ADVISING:
All students are required to meet with their advisors prior to registration. An advisor’s signature or electronic equivalent is required for registration. Students are encouraged to continue to meet with their advisors on a regular basis to help ensure a productive and meaningful college experience.
TRANSFER:
The course work in the first year of the graphic arts program is parallel to that of the associate of arts in art degree. Those who plan to transfer to specific institutions and programs should work closely with advisors in selecting courses at UMA and at CMTC. *By mid-December of the first year, students need to apply for admission into CMTC’s graphic arts certificate.
DEGREE:
Upon successful completion of the program (63 hours at a minimum GPA of 2.00) the student will be awarded an associate of applied arts in graphic arts degree.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- ENGLISH & COMMUNICATIONS: ENG101 and COM101, 102, 104, or 106
- HUMANITIES: 3 credit hours to be selected from ENG102W, 202W, 203W, 250W, 251W; any HTY; any HUM; INT129; any PHI; HUM/POS390; WST101W
- MATHEMATICS: MAT112 or 113*
- NATURAL SCIENCE: 4 credit hours from any laboratory science course
- SOCIAL SCIENCE: PSY100
- ART: ARH105,106; ART112, 113, 115 and 215
- CENTRAL MAINE TECHNICAL COLLEGE: 26 credit hours
