Associate of Arts in Architectural Studies
OBJECTIVES:
The program in architectural studies is designed to provide students with professional design and graphic skills which will help prepare them for careers primarily in architectural design and expression, as well as in any creative design-related field. The program prepares students to enter UMA’s bachelor of arts degree with its architectural studies concentration, or another educational institution in architecture at an advanced level (ordinarily the third year). Students enrolled in the program will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for developing an awareness and appreciation of the evidence of design in everyday life and its relationship to modern society.
The program provides the people of Maine and New England a unique opportunity to study architecture at a public institution.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- minimum English language competency permitting registration in ENG005 and REA008 or higher
ADVISING:
All students are required to meet with their advisors prior to registration. An advisor’s signature or electronic equivalent is required for registration. Students are encouraged to continue to meet with their advisors on a regular basis to help ensure a productive and meaningful college experience.
TRANSFER:
UMA is in the process of negotiating an agreement with several east coast universities whereby students who have completed the associate of arts in architectural studies may transfer after their two years of study at UMA. Students who plan to transfer should begin the application process during the first semester of their second year at UMA.
