Associate of Arts in Photography
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES:
This intensive program prepares students for entering the field of photography or admission to baccalaureate programs such as UMA’s Bachelor of Arts in Art, Photography Concentration. Graduates of this program are well-rounded individuals with a background adaptable to a variety of photography and image related fields. The curriculum blends traditional and digital imaging technologies while encouraging aesthetic awareness of photography as both an art form and a medium of communication. Courses in traditional black & white and color lab, digital imaging, lighting, camera management, photography and art history, design, and studio art provide a solid foundation in photography. ADVISING:
All students are required to meet with their advisors prior to registration. An advisor’s signature or electronic equivalent is required for registration. Students are encouraged to continue to meet with their advisors on a regular basis to help ensure a productive and meaningful college experience.
TRANSFER:
Students seeking baccalaureate degrees should concentrate on strong portfolio development. Transferability varies from institution to institution, but the photography courses would rarely be accepted without a portfolio review. It is anticipated that UMA will have a photography concentration available within the bachelor of arts in art degree as of January, 2001. The new concentration has been designed to function as an internal "2 + 2" arrangement, which will permit students in the associate of arts in photography program to continue onto baccalaureate studies with no loss in credits. A portfolio review will be a requirement of admissions into the new bachelor of arts concentration.
DEGREE:
Upon successful completion of the program (67 credit hours at a minimum GPA of 2.00) and a 45 credit hour residency requirement the student will be awarded an associate of arts in photography degree.
