CLEP Exams

UMA participates in CLEP for college credit. Students in UMA degree programs may earn a maximum of 45 credits through CLEP. UMA is also an open test center. This means anyone who wishes to take CLEP exams at UMA may do so and the results can be sent to any CLEP participating institution.

To Register:

  1. Get a registration form, CLEP policy statement and a testing schedule from your local UMS location. Please note that the policy statement applies only to UMA students (UMA students who are enrolled in UMFK programs are subject to UMFK's CLEP policy.)
  2. Send to the Academic and Career Advising Center (46 University Drive, Augusta, Maine 04330):
    • A completed registration form (completed #1-28).
    • A check or money order payable to CLEP for $60 per exam. (Credit Cards can be used for payment on exam day)
    • A non-refundable service fee (check) payable to UMA for $15 per exam.
    • If you are taking an exam with an optional essay, there is an additional $10 fee payable to UMA.
    • A request for a map if you need directions to the testing location.
    • The Test Center Code# is 3929

The test center name is The University of Maine at Augusta (please note your preferred testing location). The Score Recipient Code Number is not required, but be sure to provide the name of the institution (item 27). If you are required to take the essay section of a Subject Exam, you will be taking an additional 90-minute test. You may take two examinations at any one testing session. A Subject Exam with essay counts as (2) tests. You must wait (6) months before retaking a CLEP exam.

Prior to testing, please contact the college/university that you'll be sending your score report to (for credit) so that you'll know what the required passing score is.
