The civic engagement essay contest is a way to gauge which issues are important to UMA/UCB students. There will be five winning essays chosen, and the winners will receive the following prizes:
- First Place: One free class in the spring semester, sponsored by University Credit Union
- Second Place: $100 UMA bookstore gift certificate
- Third Place: $50 UMA bookstore gift certificate
- Fourth Place: $25 bookstore gift certificate
- Fifth Place: $25 bookstore gift certificate
Not only will the winner of the essay contest receive a free class, but the winning essay will also be submitted as an editorial to the Bangor Daily News. While we can't guarantee it will be printed, there's a good possibility it will be. Along with University Credit Union, we will also be coordinating a 5K run/walk in the spring, and the money raised will be donated to the issue written about in the winning essay.
All the winning writers will be recognized in the campus newspapers and Moose Prints, and the winning essays will be made available online as well as in the campus libraries.
You can pick up the essay guidelines in the OCE on your campus.
