2006 Event

Hunger & Homelessness Week is November 12th - 18th this year, and we at UCB are creating an entire week's worth of programming designed to inform, educate, and take action on hunger and homelessness in our area. Our schedule is being built little by little, and if you would like to contribute in any way, please contact me at melissa.cormier@maine.edu.

Hunger & Homelessness Week
Mon. 11/13	Understanding Poverty & the Hidden Rules of Class-this workshop will kick off our week by getting everyone to actively think about poverty and class, issues very much a part of hunger and homelessness. The workshops will be engaging and enlightening, and everyone who attends a workshop will be entered into a drawing for a Hannaford gift card. Workshops will be held in the Gran Ballroom at 10:00, 11:15, 12:00, & 2:30.	In lieu of volunteering, we would like to ask everyone to attend one of the workshops today.
Tue. 11/14 12:00-12:30 Gran Ballroom	Presentation by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor.The local Habitat chapter will be here to talk to us about what they have done in the past, and what plans they have for the future. Pizza and drinks will be provided. The presentation will be held in the Gran Ballroom at 12:00.	Our volunteer opportunity for Tuesday is TBD.
Wed.11/15		Our volunteer opportunity for Wednesday will be with the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter.
Thu. 11/16 2:30-3:30 Gran Ballroom	Photo exhibit & panel discussions-we will have a photo exhibit along with a Faces of Homelessness panel discussions on what it is like to be homeless in Bangor. We will have speakers who have experienced homelessness, as well as statistical information available on homelessness. The panel will be held at 2:30 in the Gran Ballroom. The photo exhibit will be available Tuesday through Thursday.	Our volunteer opportunity for Thursday will be with Habitat for Humanity.
Fri. 11/17 11:30-1:00 Bullwinkle's	Wrap-up & Reflection - Today we will end with a lunch for everyone who volunteered and/or participated in Hunger & Homelessness Week. The lunch will be held in Bullwinkle's from 11:30 to 1:00.	Our volunteer opportunity for Friday is Solidarity Harvest (organizing holiday meals for laid off mill workers).
