SELECTED INTERNET DIRECTORIES
A directory is a collection of links to Internet resources organized into subject categories. Directories allow you to look for sites grouped together by a broad subject. Good ones carefully compile selected Web resources and annotate sites to give an overview of their content. Results are more manageable than those from search engines. The following are useful for academic libraries.
BUBL LINK
From the United Kingdom, one of the oldest and most extensive academic directories on the web.
INFOMINE: Scholarly Internet Resource Collections
Annotations of thousands of scholarly Internet resources.
Librarians' Internet Index
Annotated Web resources on a wide range of topics.
Open Directory Project
Volunteers maintain this commercial directory offering broad subject coverage.
Scout Report Signpost
Highly respected tool for the academic and research community maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Includes detailed annotations on sites it reports on.
