There Ought to Be A Law: Students can enroll in exciting course taught by Majority Whip of Maine House
Course Number: Justice Studies 389
Your chance to change Maine law in real life.
COURSE OBJECTIVE: Have fun! Change the world.
This is your chance to learn how to directly affect public policy.
In fact you can, if you choose, become directly involved in working for (or against) a proposed law in the Maine legislature. The class will be free flowing and the instructor will encourage students to take on projects they care about personally.
This course fosters the knowledge and skill necessary to assess public issues, then change public policy through advocacy. Early classes focus on legislative process, critical analysis of public policy and the art of advocacy.
Assistant Professor Sean Faircloth is also Majority Whip of the Maine House.
Rep. Faircloth has authored several major pieces of legislation.
If you plan to have a job (or have a job) that is affected by government:
- law enforcement
- a social service agency
- municipal government
- work with children
- work with the mentally ill
…this is the course for you to learn how to protect your interests.
This course is being offered through Polycom, with Assistant Professor Faircloth broadcasting sometimes from Augusta and sometimes from the University College of Bangor. Students may take the course on either campus, as well as at Centers in Bath/Brunswick, Lewiston/Auburn, Rumford, Thomaston, and Ellsworth.
