Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community
The overall goal of Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community is to improve the skills, earning potential, income, assets and quality of life of displaced homemakers, single parents, public assistance recipients and support in the following:
Workforce Preparation
Personal and career development workshops including Self -Esteem, Assertive Communication, Moving Through Fear and a certified Employability Training.
Self-Employment/ Business Development
Training programs covering business plan development, start-up assistance and access to micro-credit. Classes include The Basic Of Starting a Business and New Ventures.
Financial Self- Sufficiency and Asset Development
Workshops that build financial management skills, Financing Your Future and Creating Your Future; and Family Development Accounts to help families develop tangible assets for economic security.
Leadership Development
Training and skill building in effective civic participation. Events and projects include an Annual Legislative Day and the Women's Leadership Initiative Of Androscoggin Valley (in partnership with the Maine Women's Fund.) We also offer a 10 - session class entitled Women Making a Difference.
